Ornamental finishesComplement and enhance the appearance of your roof with Dreadnought roof components that add interest and character such as hips, valleys, dormer windows, towers, ornamental tiles, ridges and finials. Ornamental tiles, ridges and finials work well to break up hard straight edges on the roof and bestow a uniqueness and style.
Brown Antique Sandfaced with No 4 Ornamental Ridge with "V" Groove, Scroll Finial Stop End on Dormer and Fleur de Lys Finial on Main Roof
Ornamental TilesOrnamental tiles were common in Victorian architecture and were used to add interest to large expanses of roof or vertical cladding. In the main they are used either in a series of bands or in diamond shapes. Experience has shown that Ornamental tiles look best, tiled as an odd number of courses i.e. 3 or 5. Whilst Ornamental tiles and Plain tiles in the same colour provide a subtle feature, a more striking contrast can be obtained if the Ornamental tiles are shown in different colours.
Dreadnought offer 4 ornamental patterns - fishtail, club, spade and arrowhead. Click here for further details. A popular and visually attractive combination is the use of club and fishtail tiles laid in the pattern - club/fishtail/club.
Ornamental BandingColour and interest can be added by tilling in bands and mixing in ornamental tiles, as can be seen in this example where alternate bands of red smoothfaced tiles and blue brindle ornamental spade tiles have been used.
Ornamental RidgesInterest can be added to the roof by highlighting the ridgeline via the use of ornamental ridges. Click here for further details.
FinialsFinishing touches can be provided by the use of finials. These can either be elaborate or can be a simple finial that adds a subtle finish to a roof. Click here for further details. |
