renovation of old barns before 300Background

Architects Debbie and Lyndon Glancy purchased a collection of derelict farm buildings (pictured left) and have turned them into a beautiful family home (pictured above).  Choosing the right materials has played a key role in this project's success and as many materials as possible were reclaimed and reused.  Some handmade clay roof tiles were stripped off and salvaged and these have been reused on the two storey renovated barn.  New rooftiles however had to be sourced for the new single storey building.

The architects needed to find a Staffordshire blue tile to match the old ones they had salvaged.  Dreadnought are now the only clay tile manufacturer that retains the traditional firing techniques to generate true clay colours and produce a genuine Staffordshire blue roof tile. Debbie and Lyndon could see the difference in the samples they looked at. "We chose Dreadnought simply because it looked the best, in terms of colour and quality", explains Debbie, "and it seems to have been the right choice since the roofs look great, over 2 years later."

Dreadnought Tiles is a company with an impeccable pedigree and it was a pleasure to see them continuing to thrive and innovate. Black Country craftmanship and quality at its best.” Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands
