Clay Tiles - brown antique rustic clay tiles

This contemporary multi-generational selfbuild home in rural West Sussex gets its form from its striking curved roof of Brown Antique rustic tiles. Clay Rise lies within the grounds of the owner's previous house, in an Arts and Crafts area, where clay tiles are prevalent. Andre Ford of Templeton Ford Architects used natural clay materials and convex curves to make the building appear to emerge from the landscape.
Connecting the building with its beautiful High Weald setting was a priority and material selection both internally and externally was very well-considered by Andre Ford, who has been awarded 2026 UK RIBA South East Project Architect of the Year. The varied tones of the Dreadnought brown antique tiles and their rustic texture help to root the building in its setting, whilst echoing local tradition and the Arts and Crafts ethos.
